बुर्दा ए तारीकी थी, उम्रदराज़ से माशूक़
उसके नूर ए महव ने मुझे, ताबिन्दा कर दिया ||
मेरे महबूब ने, कुछ यूँ इमदाद की मेरी
दर्द ए दिल से, दिमाग़ को, ज़िंदा कर दिया ||
जो कफ़स में क़ैद थे, मेरे अरमां अरसे से
उसकी ज़ुल्फ़ों के बिखरने ने उन्हें, परिंदा कर दिया ||
ख़्याल ए यार तो, बाईस ए हिम्मत है मग़र
उसकी एक निगाह ने मुझे, कुशींदा कर दिया ||
आम हैं क़िस्से, मुहब्बत में नेस्त हो जाने के
जी कर उसकी “ना”, मैंने ये क़िस्सा, चुनिंदा कर दिया ||
दो लफ़्ज़ों से उसने, इंसान किया था मुझे
उसकी ख़ामोशी ने मुझे वापस, दरिंदा कर दिया ||
कोशिश तो बहुत की थी, उसे भुलाने की “अब्दाल”
हर क़ोशिश ए नाकाम ने उसे वापस, ज़िंदा कर दिया ||
Stanza 1
बुर्दा ए तारीकी थी, उम्रदराज़ से माशूक़ उसके नूर ए महव ने मुझे, ताबिन्दा कर दिया ||
"A shroud of darkness weighed upon me, o beloved from days of yore, But her radiant aura transformed my life to vibrant galore."

मेरे महबूब ने, कुछ यूँ इमदाद की मेरी दर्द ए दिल से, दिमाग़ को, ज़िंदा कर दिया ||
"My beloved has done me a favor in such a way, By causing heartache, he's awakened my mind today."
This line is infused with sarcasm, implying that my beloved has indeed done me a favor. Through the pain he caused in my heart, he has resurrected my earlier naive self – the version of me that was guided solely by emotions. Now, his actions have stirred my brain, awakening pragmatism within me.

In general, thoughts of a beloved are considered a source of hope and strength. However, for the poet, the experience was divergent. When they contemplated their beloved and then encountered her piercing gaze, the impact was profound. The poet employs the term "kushinda" to vividly convey the intensity of this effect – as if their heart was slaughtered into countless fragments by her glittering glance.

"Two words of hers, transformed me in a certain way, Her displeasure, alas, turned me into a beast, I say."

Regrettably, when their beloved became distant and displeased, the poet laments that they regressed, losing their humane qualities and resembling a "darinda," which means a creature or a beast.

"I made an arduous effort, to forget her, O 'Abdal' of mine, Yet this futile attempt, brought her back to life, so divine."
